Councilwoman Dr. Mayer offered the keynote address for the University of North Dakota Honoring Ceremony for the Indians into Medicine Graduates held by Zoom today. 21 graduates appeared via computer screen for today’s special event.
“You can lose everything in your life…your home…your car…material things. One thing no one can take away from you – that’s an education to build your life and your family.”
Councilwoman Dr. Mayer stressed three keys to success: “It’s an honor and privilege to serve others. Hard work and education is everything, and our greatest asset is what we see and observe.”
Offering today’s opening prayer was Willard Yellow Bird of the MHA Nation. Willard rendered an honor song for all of the graduates while INMED faculty also honored Dr. Mayer for her years of service as a physician to Indian Country. A beautiful custom quilt, made by Kathleen Fredericks, was presented to her highlighting her INMED graduation year.
Councilwoman Dr. Mayer gave special recognition to MHA Nation member Brooke Fettig. Like Dr. Mayer, Brooke is from New Town, a graduate of New Town High School, and now a Medical Doctor.
“Love the lord first, love your family second, and love to serve others. Now we have got to get to work!!! Congratulations because everyone is so proud of you!”
